About Pushing or Pulling Analyses
Use a push or a pull analysis to calculate the recommended load for a cart or trolley being pushed or pulled by a worker. All measurements for this type of analysis are based on the use of both hands. The hands should be at the same height, otherwise the analysis will use an average. Some data cannot be detected using a manikin and must be included in a design's documentation.
Some parameters must be set when defining an analysis, including the following conditions:
Flooring wear—Affects ease of movement if the floor is cracked, scratched, or uneven. Use a cart with bigger wheels or lighten the load.
Flooring type—Increases the amount of force needed for the transition from a hard surface such as concrete or tile to a soft surface such as a carpet. Both push and pull force must be measured for both types of surface.
Ramps—Improves movability, therefore less force is required.
Cramped areas—Impedes movability, and therefore more force is required.

* To make sure work conditions are safe, the sustained and the initial loads must be under the recommended limits.
