About Finishing
Use Finishing NC sequences to machine the detail of the reference part after Roughing and Reroughing. Finishing NC sequences can also directly machine models containing facet data in STL format.
The Finishing functionality provides you with an automated procedure for creating optimized tool paths while maintaining certain manufacturing constraints. It allows you to automatically create combinations of vertical and horizontal slicing tool paths to meet your manufacturing objectives within the specified constraints. Vertical slice machining produces straight, curved or circular cuts projected onto the geometry being machined. Horizontal slicing tool paths are in the form of Z profile cuts. You can also specify that only one of these techniques should be used.
An important parameter that controls the tool path for a Finishing NC sequence is SLOPE_ANGLE, which is a threshold angle value dividing all the surfaces being machined into two areas, steep (near vertical) and shallow (near horizontal). You can then use other manufacturing parameters, specific to Finishing NC sequences, to select whether you want to machine just the steep or the shallow area or both, whether to include the flat (horizontal) surfaces into the shallow area, which slicing algorithm to use on either area, and how to perform the connections and entry moves.
Sometimes, when machining the profile portion of the model, the tool may scrape the flat bottom surface or enter an uncut material. To avoid this, you can specify a non-zero LEAD_RADIUS value to create approach and exit moves in a helical fashion on the bottommost slice.
