About Updating Out-of-Date CATProduct and CATPart CAD Documents
The export of Creo models to CATIA V5 creates the CATProduct, CATPart, and CGR Translated Image Models (TIMs) in the Workspace. After you check in the CATPart, CATProduct, and the CGR TIMs from the Workspace to the Windchill server, the CAD Documents of these models are referred as derived CAD Documents.
The export creates the following dependencies between the CATProduct top assembly, its subassemblies, the CATPart components, CGR parts, and the source models:
• Member links between the CATProduct top-level assembly and its associated child CATProduct, CATPart, and CGR CAD Documents.
• Derived image links from the CATProduct top-level Translated Image Model (TIM) assembly and the CATPart and CGR TIM components to the source model.
You cannot change or break the derived image links between the CATProduct or the CATPart CAD Documents and their source models. However, the derived image links between the derived CAD Documents and their source models allow you to update the out-of-date derived CAD Documents through the re-export of their source models from the Creo application.
You can rename or modify the geometry of the source models or the derived CAD Documents. When you try to re-export the source models after these modifications to update the out-of-date CAD Documents, if the derived CAD Documents of the source models already exist on the server, the Conflicts dialog box prompts you to check out and add to Workspace the derived CAD Documents and their dependents. You can then update the existing derived CAD Documents instead of creating new images. When you click OK in the Conflicts dialog box, the source models are re-exported to CATIA V5, the out-of-date derived CAD Documents checked out to Workspace, and their content updated. No new derived CAD Documents are created. However, you must check in the updated CAD Documents to the server. When you update CATProduct assemblies, all the out-of-date components are also updated.
If the derived CAD Documents are up-to-date with their source models, when you try to re-export the source models, a message informs you that the source models are not exported as compatible derived CAD Documents exist for the source models. When the derived CAD Documents created after the first export are up-to-date with the source models, the source models are not re-exported to the CATIA V5 format. You can check the Details page of the derived CAD Documents or their source models in the Creo browser and check the source and image table to confirm if the models are up-to-date.
