To Create a Simple Hole
1. Click > . The Hole tab opens.
2. Click
Simple to create a simple hole.
3. Click the approximate hole location on the model. This is your placement reference. The selection is highlighted. Preview geometry of the hole is displayed.
4. To relocate the hole, drag the placement handle to the new location, or snap it to a reference.
5. To change the hole placement type, click the Placement tab, and select a new type in the placement Type box.
6. To constrain the hole, drag the offset placement reference handles to appropriate references. The handle automatically snaps to the reference.
7. To align the hole with an offset reference, click the Placement tab, select the reference in the Offset references collector, and change Offset to Align.
| You can change the reference type only for holes that use the Linear placement type. |
a. Click the Placement tab, click the Hole orientation collector, and select a planar, axial, or linear reference.
b. Select either Parallel or Perpendicular from the list.
9. To modify the hole diameter, perform one of the following actions:
◦ Drag the diameter handle.
◦ Type a new value in the
Diameter box on the
Hole tab or the
Shape.
◦ Double-click the diameter dimension in the graphics window and type a new value.
10. Select a depth option from the Depth Options list on the Hole tab, or drag the depth handle.
◦ Blind ◦ Symmetric ◦ To Next ◦ Through All ◦ Through Until ◦ To Reference | • When you choose Blind and Symmetric depth options, you can drag the depth handles to define the drill depth. All other depth options automatically snap the handle to a reference. |
11. Optionally, select the second side drill depth option in the
Side 2 box on the
Shape tab. The
Symmetric depth option is not available. You can modify the second side drill depth on the tab or in the graphics window.
12. To ensure that the entire top of the hole intersects the outside of the solid geometry, on the
Shape tab, make sure that the
Top Clearance check box is selected.
13. To select the bodies from which geometry is removed, click the Body Options tab and select an option:
◦ To cut geometry from all the bodies that the feature passes through, select All.
◦ To cut geometry from selected bodies:
1. Select Selected.
2. Click the body collector, and then select bodies from which to cut geometry.
14. To represent the hole with lightweight geometry, click

15. Click
OK to create the hole.
| • To reverse the hole depth direction, click Flip from the shortcut menu or on the Placement tab. • To relocate the hole, click the primary placement handle, and then click the new placement reference. • When you snap a handle, the default handle ( ) becomes a snapped handle ( ). • To unsnap a snapped drill depth handle, hold down the SHIFT key and drag the handle from the reference. You can now redefine the hole depth. • Drag a secondary placement handle to unsnap it. |
