About the Cosmetic Thread User Interface
The Cosmetic Thread tab consists of commands, tabs, and shortcut menus. Click > > to open the Thread tab.
Commands
The commands are context-sensitive to the thread type and surface.
• Type
◦ Simple Thread—Creates a simple thread.
◦ Standard Thread—Sets the thread to use standard series and diameter.
• Hole/Thread
◦ Simple Thread:
▪ Diameter ▪ Simple thread on a cylindrical surface—Sets the diameter.
▪ Simple thread on a conical surface—Sets the height (distance between the inner and outer thread surface).
▪ Pitch—Sets threads per inch or pitch for a simple thread.
◦ Standard Thread:
▪ Thread—Sets the thread series for a standard thread.
▪ Thread size—Sets the thread size for a standard thread.
• Depth
◦ Starting surface collector—Displays the thread start reference (a plane, surface, or quilt).
◦ Depth—Sets the method to determine thread depth for a cylindrical surface, or thread length for a conical surface.
▪ Blind—Sets the depth or length of the thread from the thread start reference to a specified depth or length.
▪ Depth or Length box—Sets a value for the thread depth or length.
▪ —Flips the cosmetic thread to the other side of the start reference.
▪ To Reference—Sets the depth or length of the thread from the thread start reference to the selected reference.
▪ Depth or Length collector—Displays a reference (surface, plane, curve, axis, vertex, point, or quilt) for the thread depth or length.
Tabs
• Placement
◦ Threaded surface collector—Displays a cylindrical or conical surface on which to place a thread.
• Depth
◦ Start thread from collector—Displays the thread start reference (a plane, surface, or quilt).
◦ Depth option or Length option menu—Sets the method to determine thread depth for a cylindrical surface or thread length for a conical surface.
◦ Depth or Length box—Sets the thread depth or length as measured from the thread start reference when
Blind is selected.
◦ Depth or Length collector—Displays a reference for thread depth or length when
To Reference is selected (reference can be a surface, plane, curve, axis, vertex, point, or quilt).
• Properties
◦ Name box—Sets the cosmetic feature name.
◦ —Displays detailed component information in a browser.
◦ Parameters table—Edits the cell value.
▪ Name column—Lists the names of cosmetic thread parameters.
▪ Value column—Lists the values of cosmetic thread parameters.
◦ Open—Retrieves a stored parameters file.
◦ Save—Saves the parameter values in a .thr file for later retrieval.
Shortcut Menus
Right-click the graphics window to access shortcut menu commands.
• Threaded surface—Activates the Threaded surface collector.
• Start Thread from—Activates the Start thread from collector.
• To Reference—Activates the Depth or Length collector.
• Clear—Clears the active collector.
• Flip Thread Side—Flips the cosmetic thread to the other side of the start surface when
Blind is selected.
