Force and Moment Loads
Use
Home >
Force/Moment to create loads both in Structure native and FEM modes. You can create a load on one or more geometric entities, depending on your model type. These loads are the most widely used loads. See
Guidelines for Force and Moment Loads.
When you click
Home >
Force/Moment, the
Force/Moment Load dialog box opens. This dialog box contains the following items:
• Name—The name of the load. The color swatch adjacent to
Name allows you to
change the color of the icon, the distribution, and the text displayed for the load.
• Member of Set—The name of the
load set. You can select an existing load set from the drop-down list, or create a new set by clicking the
New button to display the
Load Set Definition dialog box.
• References—The drop-down list includes the following geometric entities. You can select the geometric entity before or after opening the Force/Moment Load dialog box. Your selections appear in the collector in the References area.
◦ Surfaces—one or more individual surfaces, part boundaries or
intent surfaces.
◦ Points—single points, vertices, point features, patterns of points, or
intent points.
If you select multiple entities, Creo Simulate creates a single load that applies to the entities, and not one load for each entity.
• Coordinate System—Allows you to select the coordinate system as a reference for the load. The default is the
current coordinate system.
Creo Simulate calculates the coordinate location of the component or vector you use to specify force or moment with respect to this coordinate system.
Coordinate System area is not active when the
Force is set to
Dir Points & Mag and the
Moment area is not active.
| If you are working on a 2D model, Creo Simulate uses the coordinate system you specified during the definition of the 2D model as the WCS. |
• Advanced—Expand the dialog box to display these fields:
◦ Spatial Variation—Does not appear if you selected
Total Load At Point from the load distribution options.
• Force—Specify the magnitude and direction of the force for your load.
Select the units of force from the drop-down list or accept the default units.
• Moment—Specify the magnitude and direction of the moment for your load. Note that moment loads should only be applied to moment capable references such as shells or beams, or the type of
Distribution must be
Total Load at Point.
Select the units of moment from the drop-down list or accept the default units.
• Preview—Adds a series of arrows to your model showing the location and distribution of the load.
After you accept the dialog box, a load icon is placed at each location you selected.
