About Query Selection and Preselection Highlighting
Use query selection with preselection highlighting to select entities that are not directly visible. You can query design entities such as datums or geometry to locate a specific entity for a particular action. As you move your pointer over the model during query selection, geometry and datums are highlighted. Preselection highlighting provides a visual confirmation of the design entity, so you can accurately target the entity to select.

Preselection highlighting is always enabled by default.
For models in shaded and no hidden line display styles, you can select the entities highlighted for preselection in the foreground without query selection.
