Gather existing geometry to create a 3D curve
The 3D Curve Gather function provides an indirect method to copy edges of existing 3D geometry and gather the copied edges into a wire part. The copied edges are not spline approximations but exact copies of the underlying geometry. For example, if you choose to gather a straight edge, the result is a 3D straight line rather than a spline approximation of a straight line as you would expect from the convert operation.
Unlike the spline curves created by the Convert function, gathered 3D curves keep their curve type and are not automatically converted into splines.
To create a 3D curve by gathering existing geometry,
1. Click 3D Geometry and then, in the 3D Curve group, click Gather Curves. The Gather and Select dialog boxes open.
2. Type a name for Part.
3. Click Edges and choose the edges with the Select Tool.
4. Click to complete the operation.
