Entering 299B General Integrated Circuits
The following table describes the part parameters required for general integrated circuits when 299B is the selected calculation model. The subcategories for general integrated circuits are:
EEPROM
Linear
Logic, CGA, or ASIC
Memory
Microprocessor
PAL, PLA
Parameter
Type
Description
Type
Choice List [Parts Count also]
Required only for the Memory subcategory.
The type of device. Many different choices are available including DRAM, RAM, SRAM, and more.
Technology Type
Choice List [Parts Count also]
Not required for the Linear subcategory. For the Parts Count model only, not required for the EEPROM subcategory.
The technology type of the device. The choices vary by subcategory.
CMOS
Checkbox
Not required for the following subcategories: EEPROM, Linear, and Memory. For the remaining subcategories, required only when MOS is the technology type.
When selected, the MOS technology is used.
Quality Level
Choice List [Parts Count also]
The appropriate quality screening level of the device. Accepted quality levels and values for general integrated circuits follow.
A2 = 0.10
A3 = 0.14
A4 = 0.25
B1 = 0.50
B2 = 1.00
C1 = 4.00
# of Bits
Integer [Parts Count also]
Required only for the following subcategories: EEPROM and Memory.
The number of bits in the memory device. This parameter is used in conjunction with Units to enter the memory device bits.
Units
Choice List [Parts Count also]
Required only for the following subcategories: EEPROM and Memory.
The units for the # of Bits value. Choices are:
b (bits)
kb (1024 bits)
Mb (1,048,576 bits)
Gb (1,073,741,824 bits)
You can enter the bits several ways. For a 1 kilobyte memory chip for example, you can type 1 for # of Bits and select kb for Units. Or, you can type 1024 for # of Bits and select b for Units.
Pins
Integer
The number of active pins in the package.
# of Gates
Integer
Not required for the Microprocessor subcategory.
The number of active gates in the package. You can determine the gate count from the logic diagram. A J-K or R-S flip flop is equivalent to 6 gates when used as part of an LSI circuit. For the purposes of a 299B prediction, a gate is considered to be any one of the following functions: AND, OR, exclusive OR, NAND, NOR, and inverter. When a logic diagram is not available, use device transistor count to determine gate count using the following equations:
Bipolar: Gates = # of Transistors / 3
CMOS: Gates = Gates = # of Transistors / 4
All other MOS, except CMOS: Gates = # of Transistors / 3
Word Size
Choice List [Parts Count also]
Required only for the Microprocessor subcategory.
The length of the data word used by the microprocessor.
Programming Cycles
Integer
Required only for the EEPROM subcategory.
The total number of programming cycles over the life of the device.
Package Type
Choice List [Parts Count also]
Indicates how the device is packaged. Choices are:
Hermetic: DIPs, PGA, SMT
DIP, Glass Seal
Flatpack
Can
Nonhermetic: DIPs, PGA, SMT
Learning Factor
Choice List [Parts Count also]
Indicates the production level for the device. Choices are:
Stable
No Quality Control
New in Production
