Printing a Report to a File
You can print a report to a local file rather than to a printer.
1. Do one of the following to open the Select Report to Print window:
◦ Select > .
◦ On the standard toolbar, click Print.
2. Select the report that you want to print to a file.
3. Click the browse button for the Print to file option. The Print to File window opens.
The default location for Save in is in your My Windchill Risk and Reliability Files folder for the installation. If you want to save the file in some other folder, you can navigate to it.
4. For File name, enter the name you want to assign to the file.
6. If you want the file to open in the external application associated with this file type after its creation, ensure that the Open file in editor after printing checkbox is selected (default).
For example, when this checkbox is selected for a DOC, RTF, or DOCX file type, an attempt is made to open it in Microsoft Word. If the attempt fails, you can manually open the file in any application that supports the file type.
7. Click Create, which returns you to the Select Report to Print window. For Print to file, the specified path and name for the file is now shown.
The Options button is available for the following three file types: Word 2007 Tabular Format (*.docx), Excel 2007 format (*.xlsx), and JPG File (*.jpg) file.
8. If the
Options button is available and you want to specify how to save the data to the selected file type, click it. Descriptions of the options for saving to these files types appears in
Supported File Types for Reports.
9. If you want to generate the report as it is defined, click OK. Otherwise, if you want to generate a customized report, select the Override report properties checkbox and click OK.
If any parameter selections are required at runtime, or if you selected the
Override report properties checkbox, the
Report Properties window opens so you can supply parameters. For more information, see
Report Properties. When finished, click
OK.
The Generating Report window displays status information as the report is generated. Clicking Cancel stops report generation. If an issue exists with generating the report, a window opens, indicating the problem encountered.
The Printing in Progress window displays status information as the report is printed to the file. If an issue exists with printing it to the file, a window opens, indicating the problem encountered. For example, if the report contains a graph or diagram when Word 2007 Tabular Format (*.docx) is selected as the file type, the message indicates that graphs and diagrams cannot be displayed in Word 2007 tabular files.
If the file is created successfully and the Open file in editor after printing checkbox was selected (default) in the Print to File window, Windchill Risk and Reliability attempts to open the file in the external application associated with the file type. If an issue exists with opening it, a window opens, indicating the problem encountered.
