Assembly Versus Part
An assembly is a component or item in the hardware design, software application, or process. Assemblies and child assemblies, which are also called subassemblies, appear in white rows in the System Tree Items table by default. They are represented by the icon shown below. A part is the lowest-level item in the system, indicating that no further breakdown is possible. Parts appear in light blue rows in the System Tree Items table by default. They are represented by the icon shown below.
In the Prediction module, you can insert parts in either the System Tree Items table or the Parts Table. For more information, see Parts Table. Additionally, you can use Prediction Parts Library files to store part data for reuse. For more information, see Prediction Parts Library Files.

You can create an Enterprise Project from a Windchill product. In this case, the icons for the selected end item and its linked parts are imported from Windchill MPMLink or Windchill PDMLink. To emphasize this, Windchill icons are used to distinguish them from Windchill Risk and Reliability assemblies and parts. For more information, see Windchill Parts.
