Costs Page
The Costs page in the View Calculation Results window displays cost results for the system based on costs entered in the calculation properties for blocks and on values entered on the Downtime page under RBD in the Calculate window. For more information, see Downtime Page.
For costs to be calculated, on the General page for RBD calculations, you must have selected Cost, which is shown under Other calculations. For more information, see General Page. If this checkbox was not selected, no cost calculations were run. In this case, the Cost page displays the following message: No costs have been calculated. If this checkbox was selected but no cost values are entered in the Calculation Properties windows for blocks, the results are all zeros.
The Costs page for RBD calculation results is similar to the General page. In the top left of the page, steady state results and costs are shown. In the top right of the page, results and costs are shown for the time specified for Display results for blocks at time on the General page for RBD calculations. The lower table displays calculated costs for specific time points, which are based on the value specified for Number of data points, which is also on the General page.
Additional guidelines follow for interpreting the information at the top of the Costs page:
Under Steady state results on the left, the cost of initial configuration is the cost at time zero and includes the cost of spares. The additional costs under this result are all hourly costs associated with system operation. If no steady state calculations are chosen, NA (for Not Applicable) is shown for spare costs. On the Spares page, the spare costs calculated for the specific time points is shown. For more information, see Spares Page.
Under Results at time on the right, the costs are those incurred over the specified mission time.
The following table describes the calculated costs shown on the Costs page. All costs are expected values. For more information about the support files that store much of this information, see RBD Support Files.
Option
Description
Total cost
The sum of all costs in the system over the mission time. This includes initial configuration cost, spare cost, miscellaneous cost, labor cost, and downtime cost.
Labor cost
The total labor costs over the mission time. This cost is based on the fixed and variable costs associated with a repair resource. For each use of a repair resource, fixed call-up costs and variable hourly pay rate costs are accrued. Thus, the cost of labor depends on the repair resources, the frequency of their usage, and the duration of their usage.
Miscellaneous cost
The total miscellaneous costs over the mission time. These costs include the fixed costs resulting from the miscellaneous costs that are incurred during maintenance and the costs associated with the repair shop.
Spare usage cost
The costs of spares purchased over the specified mission time. This value includes the initial number of spares.
Spare storage cost
The total cost of onsite and offsite spares storage over the mission time.
Downtime cost
The system cost due to the downtime caused by system failure. This cost is based on the fixed and variable costs specified on the RBD Downtime page in the Calculate window when the required capacity specified on the General page is not met.
