Inserting User-Defined Parts from a System File
When a System file is open, you can insert new user-defined parts in the User-Defined Categories window, which is an auto-hide window. General information about auto-hide windows and how to use them appears in Auto-Hide Windows.
*
This method of inserting user-defined parts assumes that the Common Library exists. If it does not, when you perform step 1, the Create Project window opens so that you can create this special Project. For more information, see Creating the Common Library.
1. Select System > View User-Defined Categories. The auto-hide User-Defined Categories window opens.
This window contains the same User-defined categories and User-defined subcategories tables as the User-Defined Categories pane in the Common Library. These tables do not support Undo/Redo capabilities.
2. For Failure rate multiplier, specify the failure rate multiplier to use for all user-defined parts. The default is 1000000. However, if user-defined parts are to use some other failure rate multiplier, enter a different value in this field.
3. For each user-defined part to insert, do the following:
a. In the last row in the User-defined categories table, click < Click here to insert a new record > . A new part category named Category is inserted.
b. Enter the name for the category.
c. In the last row in the User-defined subcategories table, click < Click here to insert a new record > . A new part subcategory named Subcategory is inserted.
d. For Subcategory, enter the name to use for the subcategory.
e. For Failure Rate, enter the failure rate for this user defined part.
You can repeat step 3.a or step 3.c multiple times to insert multiple categories or subcategories. If a category or subcategory with the default name already exists, then the default name is followed by (x), where (x) is the next available numeric value. To reorder the categories and subcategories in these tables, you can use the standard Windows drag-and-drop technique.
*
You can also quickly insert a single user-defined part category or subcategory by entering a new value for Category or Subcategory in the Parts Table. For more information, see Inserting a User-Defined Part.
