Component Replacement Policies

Component replacement is based on an age or block replacement policy. The following table describes these two types of component replacement policies. You can use the Optimal Replacement Wizard to specify your replacement policy. For more information, see Using the Optimal Replacement Wizard.

Policy	Description
Age replacement	Components are replaced upon failure or at a predefined age.
Block replacement	Components are replaced upon failure or at predefined times, regardless of the age of the component or part being replaced. This may result in performing preventive replacement on units shortly after failure replacement.
