Failure Pane
The Failure pane displays failure properties for the spares in the spares pool selected in the Spares Pools pane. The following table describes the properties in this pane.
Properties
Description
Failure detection
Indicates how a failure of a spare is detected. Choices are:
Undetectable until use. When selected, a failure cannot be detected until the spare is placed in operation.
Detectable during inspection. When selected, a failure can be detected during inspection.
Self announcing. When selected (default), a failure can be detected immediately upon its occurrence.
Failure distribution
The distribution to use to model failure times for the spare. The default is Exponential with a failure rate of 0. Because a failure rate of 0 means that the spare does not fail while it is in the spares pool, you want to click this field’s browse button to open the Distribution window. In it, you select the distribution and specify or modify values for its input parameters. For more information, see Distribution Window.
Aging percentage
A percentage value that adjusts the age of the spare when it is placed in operation. For example, suppose a value of 50 is entered for a spare that is 6 months old. If this spare is placed in operation, its failure rate is calculated as if it were 3 months old. Entering 100 for a spare indicates that it ages exactly like an online component. The default is 0. Entering a 0 for a spare indicates that it is like new when placed in operation.
