Steps for Setting Up and Using a Prediction Process Grade File
The following table provides guidance on the steps you take to set up and use a Prediction Process Grade file. In addition to supplying general instructions and descriptions, this topic references other topics where appropriate. These referenced topics typically describe how to perform the actions indicated.
*
The actions in the following table are numbered to indicate that they are performed sequentially. To successfully use a Prediction Process Grade file, you must complete these actions in the order in which they are listed.
Action
Description
1. Create the Prediction Process Grade file to apply to an assembly and score process grade factors.
You create and open a Prediction Process Grade file in the same manner as any other file. You then score the process grade factors. For more information, see Process Grade Scoring.
2. In the System file, specify the calculation model to use and whether enabled Prediction Process Grade files are to trickle down to child assemblies.
In the System file properties, you must specify whether you want to use the Logistics or Inherent calculation model to calculate process grade scores. You must also specify whether you want to trickle down an enabled Prediction Process Grade file to child assemblies or use the default Prediction Process Grade file for child assemblies instead. For more information, see Specifying Process Grade Properties.
3. Enable the Prediction Process Grade file for the assembly.
A Prediction Process Grade file is enabled by selecting a file for Process Grade file in either the Calculation Data pane or the Process Grade pane. For more information, see Enabling a Prediction Process Grade File for an Assembly.
4. Calculate prediction results.
You run prediction calculations by clicking Calculate on the standard toolbar or by selecting System > Calculate. For more information, see Calculating Prediction Results. The Prediction Process Grade files that are enabled are used to adjust the base failure rates that are calculated for assemblies.
