Inserting a User-Defined Part
To insert a user-defined part in the Parts Table, you must select User-Defined as its part classification. The custom category/subcategory combinations for user-defined parts and their default failure rates are stored in the Common Library. You can open this special Project to view and insert user-defined parts. For more information, see Common Library. Additionally, when a System file is open, you can view and insert user-defined parts in the User-Defined Categories window.
*
This procedure assumes that the last row in the Parts Table is a blank record. If this is not the case, you can insert a new record using an Insert command. For more information, see Inserting a Part Using an ‘Insert’ Command.
1. In the Parts Table, select the blank record in the last row.
2. For Part Classification, select User-Defined.
3. For Category, select the user-defined part category.
If this category has not yet been defined, type the name of the category to create. When you leave this field, the Add List Item window might appear.
In the Options window, General > Auto add list items controls whether this window opens. When this checkbox is selected (default), the Add List Item window opens. For more information, see User Options.
4. If the Add List Item window opens, click Yes to insert the value in the USERCATS list.
In addition to inserting this value in the USERCATS list, a dependent list is created that has the same name as this part category. This part category is then made available any time that User-Defined is the part classification.
5. For Subcategory, select the user-defined subcategory.
If this subcategory has not yet been defined, type the name of the part category to create. When you leave this field, this subcategory is inserted in the dependent list for the selected category in the same manner that the user-defined category is inserted in the USERCATS list.
Each user-defined category/subcategory combination is stored in the Common Library so that you can insert custom parts in any System file in any Project. In the Common Library, you must specify a default failure rate for each of your user-defined part. If no Common Library exists, performing this procedure creates one.
6. Complete the Prediction Data pane for the user-defined part. For information about entering parameters for a user-defined part, see User-Defined Parts.
