Entering NPRD Part Parameters
The following table describes the part parameters that appear in the Prediction Data pane for an NPRD part. When you use the Library Browse window to insert an NPRD part into the System file, the parameter values for this part are shown. For more information, see Inserting an NPRD Library Part into a System File. You can make modifications to these values if a MIL-HDBK-217 model is selected. When you manually insert an NPRD part in the Parts Table, you must provide a failure rate for the part. You can also enter values for other parameters.
Parameter
Type
Description
Data Source
Edit Box
The data source for the part. For an NPRD part with a (Summary) suffix, ------ appears for this parameter. Additionally, if the data is from a mix of quality levels and/or environments, --- appears for Quality and/or Environment.
Uses Miles/Hour?
Checkbox
Indicates whether the unit for failure rate is failures per million miles rather than failures per million hours. If this checkbox is selected, a miles-per-hour value must be entered for Miles/Hour to convert the failure rate to failures per million hours.
Miles/Hour
Real
The miles-per-hour value to convert the failure rate from failures per million miles to failures per million hours.
Uses Cycles/Hour?
Checkbox (NPRD 2011 part only)
Indicates whether the unit for failure rate is failures per million cycles rather than failures per million hours. If this checkbox is selected, a cycles-per-hour value must be entered for Cycles/Hour to convert the failure rate to failures per million hours.
Cycles/Hour
Real (NPRD 2011 part only)
The cycles-per-hour value to convert the failure rate from failures per million cycles to failures per million hours.
Failure Rate
Real
The failure rate for the part.
Quality
Choice List
The type of quality used in the manufacturing of the part. Choices are:
Commercial — The part is of commercial quality.
Mil-Spec — The part is procured in accordance with military specifications.
Industrial — The part is made for heavy-duty industrial use. This quality level is available only for some NPRD 2011 parts.
Unknown — The quality level of the part is unknown.
For an NPRD part with a (Summary) suffix, --- is shown if the data is from a mix of quality levels. You can choose a level.
Environment
Choice List
The type of surroundings in which the part is to operate in the field. The many choices available are basically those for the PRISM and 217 Plus models. For more information, see 217 Plus Parts Stress and PRISM Environments.
For an NPRD 2011 Part, two additional environments are supported: AA– Airborne Attack and GBC – Ground Benign Commercial.
For an NPRD part with a (Summary) suffix, --- is shown if the data is from a mix of environments. You can choose an environment.
