Duty Cycle
When Duty cycle is shown in the Calculation Data pane, you enter the percentage of time that the assembly is in an active state. The default for duty cycle is 100, which assumes that the assembly is always in the active state. The percentage of time in the dormant state is equal to:
100 – Duty Cycle
The value that you enter for the duty cycle is used to compute failure rates based on the active and dormant environments you have specified. For more information, see Environments.
*
The PRISM and 217 Plus models use duty cycle differently. For the 217Plus Parts Count model, the default value is based on the selection for Environment, PRISM / 217Plus, which appears in the Calculation Data pane when this model is selected. The environments in this list are a combination of environments and operating profiles that are predefined for parts count predictions in the 217Plus standard. For more information, see Calculation Data for 217Plus Parts Count Model. For the PRISM or 217Plus Parts Stress model, the default value is based on the selection for Operating profile, which appears in the Calculation Data pane when either of these models is selected. For more information, see Calculation Data for 217Plus Parts Stress or PRISM Model. If you switch from a 217Plus or PRISM model to another model that uses environments, the value for duty cycle defaults to 100.
