Steps for Performing an Event Tree Analysis
The purpose of event tree analysis is to evaluate the probability of occurrence of an event based on the outcomes of each event in the chronological sequence of events leading up to it. To perform event tree analysis, you construct the event tree, which includes defining the possible outcomes and consequences for each event sequence. Once the event tree is complete, you can analyze the frequency and unavailability of possible outcomes.
This topic provides guidance on the steps you take to effectively and efficiently perform event tree analysis. In addition to supplying general instructions and descriptions, this topic references other topics where appropriate.
These referenced topics typically describe how to perform the actions indicated.

Description
1.
Create or open a System file that includes the Event Tree module and insert the event tree.
You insert an event tree in the Event Tree Table. For more information, see Inserting an Event Tree. Upon creation, the event tree displays only one column for the initiating event.
2.
Insert consequences in the Event Tree Consequences file.
The Event Tree Consequences file is a singular support file that stores the consequences that can be assigned to the terminating branches in the event tree. Consequences are the outcomes that are expected when a particular sequence of events occurs. For more information, see Event Tree Consequences Files.
3.
Define the initiating event and insert columns for additional events as necessary.
You must define the initiating event and insert columns for additional events as necessary. All of the subsequent events stem from the initiating event. For more information, see Event Tree Construction. For more information, see Inserting an Event Tree Column.
4.
Insert and define branches to indicate possible outcomes.
For each column, you must insert and define branches to indicate the possible outcomes of the event. For more information, see Inserting an Event Tree Branch. For each terminating branch, consequences must be from those in the enabled Event Tree Consequences file.
5.
Calculate results.
Once all available data has been entered, run calculations. For more information, see Event Tree Calculations.
6.
Generate reports.
Generate reports. No Graph Template files are supplied with Windchill Event Tree. The Graph Wizard does not support the creation of Graph Template files for this module.
