Supported File Types for Reports
The following table lists the file types to which you can print reports from the Print to File window. The order is that shown for the Print to file option. For the Word 2007 Tabular Format (*.docx), Excel 2007 format (*.xlsx), and JPG File (*.jpg) file types, the Options button becomes available so you can click it to then specify how to save the report to the file.

Microsoft Word Document (*.doc)
A Microsoft Word file (DOC) can be opened in Microsoft Word versions prior to 2007. Both Microsoft Word Document options include all formatting and font information. To include images, you choose the first choice. To exclude images, you choose the second choice.
Microsoft Word Document - No Graphics (*.doc)
Rich Text Format (*.rtf)
A Rich Text Format file (RTF) can be opened in any word-processing or text editor program. It includes all formatting and font information.
PDF Format (*.pdf)
An Adobe Acrobat PDF file (PDF) can be opened in Adobe Acrobat or Adobe Reader. Adobe Acrobat PDF files include all formatting and font information. You can download the latest version of the Adobe Reader free of charge from Adobe Systems. For more information, visit the Adobe website at www.adobe.com.
JPG File (*.jpg)
A JPEG image file (JPG) can be opened in most graphics programs, including Microsoft Paint. When this file type is selected, an Options button is shown in the Select Report to Print window. Clicking it opens the JPG Options window. You can then indicate the resolution quality of the image. The units are DPI (dots per inch). Choices are 72, 150, 300, and 600. The default is 150.
Word 2007 Tabular Format (*.docx)
This file type, which consists of tabular formatting of all report data and graphic images, can be opened by Microsoft Word 2007 and later versions. When this file type is selected, an Options button is shown in the Select Report to Print window. Clicking it opens the Print to Word 2007 Options window. You can then indicate whether you want to include page headers and group headers and page footers and group footers.
Excel 2007 Format (*.xlsx)
An Excel 2007 Format file (XLSX) can be opened in Microsoft Excel 2007. Each report is saved to separate Excel worksheet inside of a single Excel workbook. When this file type is selected, an Options button is shown in the Select Report to Print window. Clicking it opens the Print to Excel 2007 Options window. You can then indicate whether you want to include group header fields. You can also indicate whether you want to create a new worksheet on a group change.
XML Format (*.xml)
An XML Format file (XML) can be opened in any XML editor. The report is saved to a single XML file that can be opened in most web browsers, including Microsoft Internet Explorer. All fields in the Details section for a record appear in a single element. All other sections are unused.
Printer File Format (*.prn)
A special printer file type (PRN) that can be sent to a printer for printing. While you cannot open a PRN file in a word-processing or text editor application, you can convert it into an Adobe Acrobat PDF file using Adobe Acrobat Distiller.
