Scroll Bars
To go to an approximate location in a table and then browse to find a specific record, you use the scroll bar on the right. Every time that you click in the scroll bar area, the table position changes, which means that different records might have to be retrieved from the database. To find a record quickly, you want to minimize the number of times that data retrieval is necessary. To accomplish this, grab the scroll bar handle and drag it to the area that you wish to browse. As you drag the scroll bar handle, a tooltip displays the record number for your current location.
For example, assume that you want to see record 5000 in a table that contains 10,000 records. Clicking in the scroll bar area until you reach record 5000 takes over 200 clicks and 50 retrievals from the database. If you drag the scroll bar handle directly to record 5000, it takes only one mouse click and one retrieval from the database!
