Codes
A code is a value assigned to an item. Codes are used in many different support files so that you can modify the display text that is shown in the System file without having to modify all records that use this code. For example, if you copy a List Library file created in one Project into a different Project or into the Common Library, you need only to modify the display text for a list to modify all records that use this code.
The default for the code is an uppercase version of the name supplied for the item. Some support files have restrictions on codes. For example, List Library files, have the most restrictions:
No duplicate codes
No blank codes
No usage of the following characters: asterisk (*), colon (:), and tilde (~).
No more than 100 characters
The FIDES Mission Profile file also has the same restrictions except the asterisk (*) is the only character that cannot be used. Other support files might have only a few restrictions. When the value entered for a code is not acceptable, a warning message is shown.
