Steps for Performing a Prediction
This topic provides guidance on the steps you take to effectively and efficiently perform a prediction. In addition to supplying general instructions and descriptions, this topic references other topics where appropriate. These referenced topics typically describe how to perform the actions indicated.
*
The actions in the following table are numbered to indicate that they are performed sequentially. For accurate predictions, you must complete these actions in the order in which they are listed.
Action
Description
1. Create or open the System file; then, for the top-most assembly, specify system data.
The top-most assembly in the System Tree Items table represents the system. In the Calculation Data pane for this assembly, specify the appropriate data, including the calculation model, method, operating temperature, and environment. The values entered in these fields are inherited by lower-level items. For more information, see Prediction Assembly Data.
2. Define the hierarchical structure of the system.
Using the System Tree Items table and Parts Table, insert assembly and part records. If part number searching is turned on (default), a search of all enabled Parts Libraries begins when you enter a complete or partial part number for Part Number and press Tab. If a match is found, information about this part is retrieved and shown in part-related panes. If no match is found, you would manually enter data in part-related panes. For more information, see:
3. Specify assembly and part properties.
For each assembly and part, complete the Prediction Assemblies and Prediction Parts forms. While preliminary predictions can be performed based on default values for part parameters, to fine tune the prediction, enter the data that best represents your system requirements. For more information, see:
4. Calculate predictions and review results.
You run prediction calculations by clicking Calculate on the standard toolbar or by selecting System > Calculate. Calculation results are available in the View Calculation Results window. For more information, see Prediction Calculations.
5. Generate Prediction reports and graphs.
Generate Prediction reports and graphs. For more information, see Prediction Custom Graphs.
