Repairable Systems
The following table describes ways in which allocation goals can be specified for repairable systems.
Goal
Description
Minimum target (steady state) availability
The input is the availability at a specified time or at steady state conditions. Generally, the steady state availability is considered. Thus, the minimum specified MTBF or the maximum allowed failure rate can be calculated. MTTR (mean time to repair) rates should be provided. If allocated availabilities are calculated, they can be converted into failure rate (or MTBF) allocations using the specified MTTR.
Maximum allowed unavailability
The minimum required availability can be calculated.
