Re-Searching Libraries after Changing Part Numbers
If you change part numbers in the Parts Table, you can use Re-Search Libraries commands to re-search all enabled Prediction Parts Library files for updated part data. The following table describes the four Re-Search Libraries submenu commands that are available. You use the last command to convert all NPRD 1995 parts in the Parts Table to NPRD 2011 parts.
Command
Description
System
When selected, all part numbers are re-searched.
Selected Assembly
When selected, the part numbers for the active assembly are re-searched.
Selected Part
When selected, the active part number is researched. If an assembly is active, the first part for that assembly is re-searched.
Upgrade NPRD Parts
When selected, all parts with a classification of NPRD are re-searched to convert any NPRD 1995 parts to NPRD 2011 parts.
*
Because some part category and subcategory were renamed in NPRD 2011, slight category and subcategory changes can occur. While failure rates might also change, they will never change by more than a factor of 2. No changes are made to the quality, environment, or data source for converted NPRD parts.
To update part data in the Parts Table by re-searching enabled Prediction Parts Library files, do the following:
Select Prediction > Re-Search Libraries and the appropriate submenu command.
When re-searching library files for only the active part, if a match is found, the data for this part is retrieved and shown in part-related panes, replacing the data previously shown.
When re-searching library files for either all part numbers in the system or for all part numbers for the active assembly, the Searching Parts Libraries window opens, displaying progress.
When re-searching library files for all NPRD part numbers in the system, the Searching Parts Libraries window opens, displaying progress.
To stop the search, you would click Stop in this window. Another window would then open, asking you to confirm that the process be stopped. If you click No, the process continues. If you click Yes, the process ends. However, ending this process does not undo any part data replacements that have already been made.
After the search is completed, the Parts Re-Search window opens, displaying the part data replacements that resulted. For more information, see Parts Re-Search Window. When finished viewing this information, you would click Close.
