When the IEC TR 62380 or RDF 2000 calculation model is selected, the RDF 2000 / IEC part classification is available. Selecting this classification changes the category and subcategory choices to those specified in these standards.

The classification of parts does not change if you change the calculation model is changed. Parts with the RDF 2000 / IEC classification still calculate if the model is set to MIL-HDBK-217 FN2 or some other model. Parts with the General classification still calculate if the model is set to the IEC TR 62380 or RDF 2000 model.

For example, if the part classification/category/subcategory combination for a part is RDF 2000 / IEC/Capacitors and Thermistors, Tanatalum Capacitors, Solid Electrolye, it calculates the same as a part with a combination of General/Capacitor/Solid, Elec, Tant (CSR). You can see this if you change the calculation model from the IEC TR 62380 or RDF 2000 calculation model to MIL-HDBK-217 FN2 and then change the part classification to General. The category/subcategory combination changes from Capacitors and Thermistors, Tanatalum Capacitors, Solid Electrolye to Capacitor/Solid, Elec, Tant (CSR).

When the IEC TR 62380 or RDF 2000 model is selected, newly inserted parts default to the RDF 2000 / IEC classification. Parts added as a result of a Parts Library search also change to the category/subcategory combination for a RDF 2000 / IEC part.
