Type
Description
---|---|---|
Type
Choice List
The type of laser. Many different choices are available, including Argon Ion, Flowing CO2, and many more. Parameter values are sometimes needed only for certain types. When this is the case, the types that require the parameter are noted.
Number Optical Surfaces
Integer
The number of active optical surfaces with which the laser energy or beam interacts. Internally reflecting surfaces should be not counted.
Average Power
Real (kw)
Required only for the following types: Flowing CO2 and Nd:YAG, Krypton.
The average power of the laser in kilowatts. Its value is determined from the actual design parameter for the flashlamp utilized.
—C02 Sealed-
The parameters under this heading are required only for the Sealed CO2 type.
Current (mA)
Real (mA)
The current through the discharge tube of the carbon dioxide sealed laser.
CO2 Overfill Percent
Integer
The percent increase over the optimum CO2 partial pressure, which is normally in the range of 1.5 to 3 Torr for most carbon dioxide-sealed lasers.
% Ballast Vol Increase
Integer
The percent of ballast volumetric increase.
-Xenon-
The parameters under this heading are required only for the following Xenon types: Nd:YAG Rod, Xenon and Ruby Rod, Xenon.
Energy/Pulse
Real (J)
The flashlamp or flashtube input energy per pulse in joules (J). This value is determined from the actual or design input energy parameter.
Diameter
Real
The flashlamp or flashtube inside diameter in millimeters. Its value is determined from the actual design parameter for the flashlamp utilized.
Pulse Width
Real
The truncated pulse width in microseconds (usec). Its value is determined from the actual design parameter of the pulse forming network (PFN) used to pulse the flashlamp or flashtube.
-Nd:Yag and Ruby Rods-
The parameters under this heading are required only for the following Rod types: Nd:YAG Rod and Ruby Rod.
Cleanliness Level
Choice List
The cleanliness level, which is critical to the reliability of the part. Contamination is the major cause of solid state laser malfunction. Choices are:
• Minimal w/Bellows- Minimal precautions during opening, maintenance, repair, and testing. Plus bellows provided over optical train.
• Minimal w/o Bellows— Minimal precautions during opening, maintenance, repair, and testing. No bellows provided over optical train.
• Rigorous w/Bellows— Rigorous cleanliness procedures, equipment, and trained maintenance personnel. Plus bellows provided over optical train.
Cooling Media
Choice List
The cooling media of the laser. Choices are Gas and Liquid.
Arc Length
Integer
The flashlamp or flashtube arc length in inches; its value is determined from the actual design parameter of the flashlamp utilized.
Pulse Rate
Real
The pulse or repetition rate in pulses per second (pps). This is generally in the 1 to 20 pps range for military solid state lasers.
Energy Density
Real
Required only for the two Ruby Rod types.
The amount of energy stored in the device per unit volume.
