Calculation Method Terms
The following table defines the terms used to describe calculation methods in the Telcordia document, Reliability Prediction Procedure for Electronic Equipment. To understand the different scenarios that can be modeled by each method, it is important to understand these terms.

Device
Any electrical part with distinct electrical characteristics, such as integrated circuits, diodes, and resistors.
Unit
An assembly of devices, such as circuit packs, modules, plugins, racks, and power supplies.
System
A complete assembly that performs an operational function.
First-Year Multiplier
The ratio of the first-year failure rate to the steady state failure rate.
Steady state failure rate
The constant failure rate after one year of operation.
