Markov States Window
The Markov States window displays a table listing the states in the active Markov diagram. The following table describes the columns in this window. These columns display a subset of the properties on the General page in the Calculation Properties window for states. For more information, see State Calculation Properties.
Column
Description
Identifier
The unique identifier assigned to the state. While an identifier is assigned to a state when you insert it, you can change it to any unique value. The format for the assigned identifier is specified by Markov State Identifier, which appears under Identifiers in the System file properties. For more information, see Identifiers System File Properties.
State
The state assigned to the system. Choices are.
Degraded. The component or assembly may or may not be operational, depending upon whether the value that you specify for Capacity, which is described below, meets or exceeds the specified required capacity. If the capacity is equal to or greater than the specified required capacity, then the state is classified as a good state. If the capacity is less than the specified required capacity, then the state is classified as a failed state.
Failed. The component or assembly is not operational. The value for Capacity is set to 0. All absorbing states are considered failed states, including common cause failure states, catastrophic states, and imperfect coverage failure states.
Good. The component or assembly is operational and performance is adequate. The value for Capacity is set to 100.
Initial Condition
The probability (between 0 and 1) that the system will be in this state when it initially starts operating. In a diagram with only one initial state, the value for the initial state is 1. In a diagram with more than one initial state, the values for all initial states must be equal to 1.
Capacity
The throughput, output, or production of the system when it is in the specified state. Capacity is specified in terms of percentages (from 0 to 100) rather than as absolute values. When Good or Failed is selected for State, this field is display-only. The capacity is always 100 for a good state and 0 for a failed state. When Degraded is selected for State, the value in this field can be modified. While the default is 100, you should change it to the appropriate value.
You can modify data directly in the Markov States window. Any changes you make here to a state’s properties are saved to its Calculation Properties window. Conversely, any changes you make in a state’s Calculation Properties window are saved to the Markov States window.
