Alternatives Page

When you select LCC > Alternatives in the Calculate window, you can indicate whether you want to calculate costs for all or selected system design alternatives in the Project’s LCC Variables file. Comparing the costs of various design alternatives can be very beneficial.

For example, to fix a known issue, you might want to compare the cost of retrofitting a current design with a corrective action solution with the cost of a redesign.

The following table describes the properties on the Alternatives page. Costs for all or selected alternatives are available on LCC reports.

Property	Description
Calculate using alternatives	Indicates whether to calculate using alternatives. When this checkbox is cleared (default), all other properties on this page are unavailable and ignored during LCC calculations. If this checkbox is cleared when variables do vary by alternatives, zero is used as the value for each variable. When this checkbox is selected, other properties are made available on this page. The equation for each item in the CBS tree is run once for every selected alternative. If time intervals are also selected, see Alternative and Time Interval Calculations for more information.
All alternatives	When selected, cost calculations run for all alternatives in the LCC Variables file.
Selected alternatives	When selected, the buttons described in Alternative and/or Time Interval Selections become available so that you can add and remove specific alternatives from those in the LCC Variables file. The Available list on the left displays the alternatives that are available for selection. The Selected list on the right displays the alternatives that have already been selected.
