Specifying Continuous Operation
To accommodate systems that are assumed to operate continuously, Continuous operation is provided on the Operating Time page in the Calculate window. For more information, see FRACAS Calculation Properties. When this checkbox is selected, operation is assumed to be 24 hours a day, and all operating time records are ignored.
1. Select System > Calculate. The Calculate window opens.
2. On the Calculation Selection page, make sure FRACAS is selected.
3. On the Operating Time page, select Continuous operation. Start date and End date become available so that you can calculate the overall MTBF over a specified time period.
The default date for End date is the current date. The very first time you calculate FRACAS results, the default for Start date is also the current date. However, on subsequent calculations, the default values for both dates are the last dates that you have specified. If you change the start date but not the end date, overall MTBF is computed until the present time.
4. For Start date, select the date on which continuous operation began.
5. For End date, select the date on which continuous operation ended.
6. Click OK to run calculations based on the selections made in the Calculate window.
