Using the FMEA Setup Wizard to Define the Structure
You use the FMEA Setup Wizard to set up the FMEAs in your Project based on either a supplied FMEA template or your own custom FMEA structure. You can start the FMEA Setup Wizard only when the FMEA Table is active. If you create a Project with custom settings as described in Creating a Project Using the New Project Wizard, you can choose to use the FMEA Setup Wizard to set up FMEAs then or you can set them up later. As long as you have not inserted any FMEA Worksheet records in any System file in the Project, or you have not made other FMEA modifications that prevent changes to your FMEA design, you can run the FMEA Setup Wizard.
1. Select the FMEA Table. The FMEA Setup Wizard command is not shown on the FMEA menu unless this table is active.
2. Select FMEA > FMEA Setup Wizard.
If the FMEA Setup Wizard cannot be run, a window opens, indicating why this is the case. For example, if items have been inserted in the FMEA Worksheet table, this wizard cannot run. You must click OK to close this window.
If your FMEA design has already been set up, a window opens, indicating the current setup information. In this window, you must click Yes to confirm that you want to change the design.
If conditions for running the FMEA Setup Wizard are met, the FMEA Setup Wizard starts and displays the Select FMEA Worksheet Type page.
3. On the Select FMEA Worksheet Type page, do the following:
a. Select one of the supplied FMEA templates to use or < I want to define my own FMEA type >.
b. Click Next. If you selected one of the supplied FMEA templates, the Select FMEA Modes Library page appears. Go to step 4. If you selected the option for defining your own FMEA type, the Select the FMEA Data Structure page appears. For more information, see Hierarchical FMEA Data Structures.
c. Select the FMEA data structure and click Next. The Select FMEA Modes Library page appears. All supplied FMEA Modes Library files are available for selection.
4. Select a supplied FMEA Modes Library file or select < I will create a Failure Modes Library later > if you want to create a custom one later. For more information, see FMEA Modes Library Files.
5. Click Next. The Set FMEA Options page appears.
6. On this page, do the following:
a. Select Enable FMEA rollup if you want to roll up local effects to the mode of the next higher level item. For more information, see FMEA Roll Up and Building.
b. Select Show FMEA Control Plans if you want to use control plans. For more information, see Control Plans and DVPs.
c. Select Show FMEA DVPs if you want to use DVPs (design verification plans). For more information, see DVPs.
d. Click Next. The Wizard Complete page appears.
7. Click Finish to complete the FMEA setup process.
A window opens, displaying progress as needed support files are copied into the Project. Once the copying process is complete, the FMEA is shown per the specified design changes.
