Required FMEA Fields
In the FMEA Design file, required FMEA fields appear in gray rows under the data level with which they are associated. Required fields are needed for FMEA calculations and other special purposes. Required fields must remain in their predefined level in the hierarchical FMEA data structure. You cannot change, move, or delete required fields.
All required fields can be inserted in the Table Format file for the FMEA Worksheet table. When you insert a data level in this table, the fields for this data level and any child data level become available. For example, assume that the standard FMEA design structure is in use. When you insert an item, fields at the item, mode, and cause level become available. For data structures that do not have separate cause and effect levels, the required fields for these levels are available at the mode level.
The following table lists the required fields for each data level for the item>mode>cause>effect data structure. Headings for cause and effect data levels appear only when these data levels are defined in the selected data structure. For example, no Effect heading is present for the Standard FMEA structure. Required fields for this level are shown at the mode level. No Cause and Effect headings are present for the Mode Only structure, which is selected in the Tablet PC Sample Project. All required fields for these levels are shown at the mode level.

When an MSG-3 Project is created from the supplied MSG-3 template, the data structure is item>mode>effect>cause. In this case, all fields required by MSG-3 are listed under the appropriate data level.
