FMEA Standards
Because FMEAs can evaluate hardware systems, process control systems, software, and more, they are used in many different industries. Some industries prefer certain FMEA standards. Aerospace and defense companies generally use either the MIL-STD-1629 FMECA or SAE ARP5580 FMEA standard. Automotive suppliers use the SAE J1739 standard or the Automotive Industry Action Group (AIAG), Daimler Chrysler, Ford, or GM FMEA automotive standards. Other industries generally adopt one of these standards, sometimes customizing them to meet their own requirements.
The following topics provide information about the most commonly used FMEA standards and well as information on how to order these standards:
All of the standards described in the above topics provide general FMEA forms and documents, identify criteria for the quantification of risk associated with potential failures, and offer guidelines on the mechanics of completing FMEAs. The FMEA module supports all of these standards and provides for easily customizing them or creating combinations to meet your own unique needs.
