FMEA Fault Equivalence File Searches
When the data that you enter in the FMEA Worksheet table in the System file matches a key record in the FMEA Fault Equivalence file, the data associated with that key record is copied into the FMEA. Descriptions of how this is done follow.
If key fields are all fields in the FMEA Tree Items table, when all of these fields in the System file match the criteria specified by a key record, all of the FMEA data associated with that record is copied into the System file.
If key fields include FMEA item level fields, all non-blank item level fields are copied from the FMEA Fault Equivalence file into the current item. All child modes (and causes and effects) are also copied. If more than one item exists, these additional items are also copied.
If key fields include FMEA mode level fields, all non-blank item level fields are copied from the FMEA Fault Equivalence file into the parent item of the mode currently selected in the System file. Non-blank mode level fields for the FMEA Fault Equivalence record are copied into the current mode. All child records (causes and effects) are also copied.
If key fields include FMEA cause or effect level fields, any parent data is copied into existing parent records in the System file. Child records are also copied in the same manner as described above.
If a record matches a key record (and all FMEA data is copied into the System file), but you then modify the record so that it no longer matches any key record, all of the copied data is removed. Additionally, all records with a source of FMEA Fault Equivalence are removed.
If a System file record matches a key record (and all FMEA data is copied into the System file), but then you modify the record so that it then matches a different key record, the data from the first key record is removed; then, the data from the new matching key record is copied into the System file.
If duplicate key records exist, the first match in ascending record number order is used.
