Error states are the result of noise factors on ideal functional outputs. Because the elimination of all noise factors is impossible, undesirable outputs can occur. These error states are failure modes or effects of failure as defined by end users of the product. In the functional FMEA, you enter a technical error state as a failure mode and a customer-focused error state as a failure effect.
