Viewing Part Thumbnails
When a System file contains Windchill parts, you can view a small image or thumbnail of the active Windchill part in the auto-hide Thumbnail window. From a supported table, do one of the following:
Right-click the Windchill part and select View Thumbnail.
Select the Windchill part and then select Windchill View Thumbnail.
*
Supported tables include the System Tree Items and FMEA Tree Items tables and all tables related to these two parent tables. This includes System Tree Items subtables, the special Global Attributes table, and many FMEA and FRACAS tables and subtables. If the active record is not related to a System Tree Items or FMEA Tree Items record, then an enlarged image of the Windchill part icon is shown in the Thumbnail window.
The auto-hide Thumbnail window opens, pinned in place on the right side of the application window. If you resize this window, scroll bars become available. As you select different Windchill parts in the tree, this window updates to show the thumbnail for the active part. If you click a record in a supported table, such as the FRACAS Incidents table, the part associated with the incident is shown.
The upper area of the Thumbnail window displays the image stored for the part in Windchill. If no image is stored, then an enlarged image of the Windchill part icon is shown.
Beneath the image, buttons for printing and saving the image are available when a stored Windchill part image is shown. A button for viewing the part’s information page in Windchill is always available. To view the information page for a Windchill part, you can also click the image or select the View Part Information Page command, which is described in the next topic.
The lower area of the Thumbnail window provides context information for the part.
When the window is displaying a Windchill part in the System Tree Items or FMEA Tree Items table, the Context area displays the singular table name, which is System Tree Item or FMEA Tree Item by default. Under the table name is its one or more display fields. For the System Tree Items table, which has both primary and secondary display fields, Part Number and Name are the defaults. For the FMEA Tree Items table, Name is the default.
When the window is displaying a Windchill part in a table related to either the System Tree Items table or FMEA Tree Items table, the table type and display field of all records from the parent table to the currently selected table are shown. For example, if an attribute is selected for an item in the Global Attributes table, the Context area displays the singular table name for the parent System Tree Items table, followed by its two display names. Under this, it displays Global Attribute and the display field for this special table, which is always Name.

If the Thumbnail window is not displaying Windchill parts, your administrator might need to configure the Administrator application to integrate with Windchill. When a newer version of Windchill Risk and Reliability is installed, your administrator must reconfigure the Administrator application. For more information, see the “Configuring the Administrator Application” topic in the Windchill Risk and Reliability Windchill Integration Guide.
