Selecting or Creating a File Using a Selection Window
You often click a browse button to open a window in which to select or create a file. The labels for these buttons generally have an ellipsis or the word “Browse” followed by an ellipsis. In the Enterprise Edition, your ability to perform tasks like file section and creation depends on your permissions, which are set by your system administrator.

Browse Button
If only files in the active Project can be selected, a < Select file...> label appears in the field that is tied to the browse button.
< Select file...>
When you click the browse button, a selection window opens. Many variations of this type of window are available. In most variations, clicking a file selects it and closes the window. Clicking < No selection > removes an existing selection and closes the window. Clicking the green checkmark or the red X closes the window without making a selection change.
In some variations, a < Create new file > command is provided. Clicking it changes the label to < Type new file name here and press Enter >. This label is shown in light gray to indicate that you are in edit mode. After you supply a name and press Enter, you click the green checkmark to create and open the file.
In other variations, Project and File type options are available at the top of the window so that you can view and in some cases modify the files from which to select. In the Team Edition, a browse button appears to the right of Project so that you can navigate to another Team Project folder if necessary. To close this type of window, you must click a file. The selected file is then shown in the field from which you opened the selection window.
External Files
If the file to open, select, save, or create is an external file type, a standard Windows window opens. For example, when you select File > Open > Text and Other Files > Text, the Open File window opens. While the default directory is your My Windchill Risk and Reliability Files folder for the current installation, you can use the navigational options in the Open File window to go to any directory to which you can connect. Once you select a file and click Open, this text file opens in the registered application for this file type.
