Prompt Customization
Default prompts are assigned to all data fields in the Data Definition file. However, you can change the default prompt for a field to a custom prompt. For example, Alternate Part Number is the default prompt for a field in the System Tree Items table. When you select this field in the Data Definition pane, you can enter Alt PN for User Prompt in either this pane or the Field Definition pane to replace all occurrences of Alternate Part Number with Alt PN.
The ability to customize prompts enables you to use data fields in other ways. For example, if you do not track unit costs but track shipping costs of replacement parts, you can change the prompt for Cost, Unit to Shipping Cost and then use this field to store shipping cost information.

Some data fields are used internally in special ways. The following icon is used for special fields. While you can assign custom prompts to these fields, you cannot re-purpose them to use them in other ways.  |
