Print Behavior
The following table describes the properties that can appear under Print Behavior in the Properties window for a report object. Several of these properties are available only when the object is Record Counter. This special field is one of many that you can insert in a Report Design file using the Special Fields window.
Property
Description
Can grow
Indicates whether to wrap long text strings to additional lines when the report is printed. This checkbox appears for all objects that contain text. It is not present for pictures, lines, and boxes. When this checkbox is selected (default), all objects directly below this one are shifted down during printing.
Display top level value
Indicates whether to show the value in the header of a report having multiple pages for the top-level item or the first item listed on the page. This checkbox appears only for Prediction Assembly and FMEA Tree Items fields. To show the top-level value, this checkbox must be selected for each Prediction Assembly or FMEA Tree Items field inserted in the report header.
Extend to section bottom
Indicates whether to extend the object to the bottom of the section when printed. This checkbox is similar to Size to Section, except that the top of the object remains fixed. When it is selected, the object is extended.
Hidden
Indicates whether to print the object on the report. When this checkbox is selected, the object is not printed.
Indent by level
Indicates whether to indent the prediction value shown in the header of a report having multiple pages to reflect its level in the tree. This property appears only for Prediction Assembly and FMEA Tree Items fields.
Initial counter value
The number with which to start the item count. This property is available only for Record Counter, which is a special field. The default is 1.
Linked label
The label chosen as a linked label works in conjunction with Suppress linked label if blank. You can select any label in the same section as the selected object as the linked label. This property appears only for a data field.
Reset after group
The name of the group that is to reset the counter to the value specified for Initial counter value. This property is available only for Record Counter, which is a special field.
Reset to initial value after group change
Indicates whether to reset the item counter to the value specified for Initial counter value when the group selected in Reset after group is encountered. This checkbox is available only for Record Counter, which is a special field. When it is selected, the counter is reset.
Size to section height
Indicates whether to make the height of the object equal to the height of the section when printed. This is useful for implementing column separators or column shading.
Suppress duplicates
Indicates whether to show information in the Details section if the previous item contained exactly the same information. This checkbox is available only for a database or formula field.
Suppress duplicates to next group
Indicates whether to display duplicate information for the first item in a new group when duplicate information in the Details section is being suppressed. This drop-down is available only for a database or formula field.
The drop-down displays options: None, Any, and all the applicable groups.
Suppress linked label if blank
Indicates whether to omit the label selected for Linked label from printing when the object is blank. This checkbox appears only when the selected object is a database or formula field. This checkbox is useful for formatting reports when the following conditions exist:
The fields in the Details section are arranged vertically instead of in columns across the page.
The label for the object is in the same section as the object rather than in the Report Header.
For the report section, Can shrink is selected.
Suppress zeros
Indicates whether to print a zero for a blank value. This checkbox is available only for a numeric database or formula field. When it is cleared (default), a zero is printed. When it is selected, no value is printed.
Vertical anchor object
The object with which to align the current object when printing, ensuring that they maintain their relative positions. You can select any object in the same report section as the vertical anchor object (parent) for the current (child) object.
