Inserting an Open File Control
When customizing a Start page, you can insert an Open File control. You use this control to set up links for opening particular Project files. When you set up a link, you select the Project and file, and you specify text for the control title and link.
1. If necessary, click Customize to view the customization area.
2. Click the Open File button.
The control is inserted on the page. You can now set up the file that you want the link to open.
3. In this control, click Set up the Open a File control. The Control Settings Wizard starts and displays the Select File Type page.
4. Select the type of file you want the link to open and click Next. The Select Project page appears.
5. Select the Project that contains this file and click Next. The Select File page appears.
6. Select the file you want the link to open and click Next. The Select Image page appears.
If you do not specify an image file on this page, the default image for this link is used.
7. If you do not want to use a custom image, click Next and go to step 8. Otherwise, if you do want to use a custom image:
a. Select Show custom image. The Browse button in the lower right corner of the page becomes available.
b. Click Browse. The Open window opens.
c. Use the options provided in this window to select the image file you want to use. Both JPG and PNG files are supported.
d. Click Open. The selected image is now shown on the Select Image page.
e. Click Next. The Select Text page appears.
8. On the Select Text page, specify labels for the control title and link:
a. For Control Title, enter the text to display on the control.
For example, you might enter Open System File X, where X is the name of the file.
b. For Link Text, enter the text to display for the link.
For example, you might enter Design X, where X is the name of the product model under analysis.
c. Click Next. The Wizard Complete page appears.
9. Click Finish.
The control is updated with the link, any custom image, and the specified title and link text. You can now click the link or image to open the file. If the file cannot be opened, a window opens, indicating why this action failed.
For example, assume that the link is to open an RBD Block Library file. If you click this link in the desktop application, the file opens.

If the link is for a Report Design or Report Binder file, clicking it runs the report instead of opening the file for editing. You can insert a link to a Report Design or Report Binder file only in the desktop application, but you can click the link to run the report from the desktop application.
