Edit Hyperlink Window
The Edit Hyperlink window provides for specifying the URL address or directory path for the page or file that a clickable link is to open. The following table describes the options in this window.
Option
Description
Display text
The text to display as the link in the field.
Link type
The protocol for opening the link. Choices are http:, https:, and http:. The default is file:. If you do not enter the protocol as part of the address, the selected link type and “//” is placed at the beginning of the address when you close this window. The next time that you open this window, the protocol data is shown in the address.
Address
The URL for the web page or the directory path for the file to open when the display text is clicked. No validation is performed on this value. You must ensure that the specified URL or directory path is valid. For a directory path, you must also ensure that all users have permissions to it. If a user does not have the necessary permissions to the directory, the link is unavailable. To use the standard Windows window to navigate to and select a file to open, click this field’s browse button. When the link is clicked, Windows opens the file using the default program for the file extension. If the file has an .EXE extension, Windows attempts to run the program. If no default program is available for the given extension, or if no file extension is supplied, Windows prompts you for the program to use to open the file. If the file cannot be found, Windows does nothing.
Once you complete this window and click the green checkmark, the link is underlined in the table or form to indicate that it is clickable. When you place the mouse cursor over the link, the address is shown as the tooltip. The tooltip for the table also notes that you can press Ctrl and click the link to edit it. If you do this, the Edit Hyperlink window opens so that you can modify the display text and either the URL or directory path specified as the address. If you click the field, a browse button is made available. Clicking this button also opens the Edit Hyperlink window.
