In the Data Definition pane, you can configure dependent lists only for text-based fields. If a you select a field other than a text or memo field, the Dependent List Definition pane displays a message indicating that only text fields can be attached to lists.

If the selected field is a text field but is already attached to a list in the Field Definition pane, the message indicates that the List field must be cleared before a dependent list can be configured.
