Adding Records with Missing Identifiers or Parent Assemblies
When records are being imported into a table in the System file, the Import Wizard prompts you for missing data relationships. These data relationships indicate the identifiers or parent assemblies with which records are associated. For example, to add a record to the FRACAS Incidents table, identifiers for the System Tree Items table and possibly the Configurations table must be specified.
The following table lists the parent identifiers required for adding records to a table in the System file.
System File Table
Required Parent Table Identifiers
Configurations
(None)
System Tree Item
(None)
FMEA Worksheet
Item, mode, cause, and/or effect identifiers
FRACAS Incidents
System Tree Items and Configurations identifiers
FRACAS Maintenance Log
Incident identifier
Parts Table
Parent assembly
When records being imported do not include the necessary identifiers or parent assemblies, a window opens, prompting you to do one of the following:
Select the relationship on a case-by-case basis.
Choose a relationship to apply to all subsequent records with missing identifiers.
Skip the importing of records with missing identifiers or parent assemblies.
For example, if an incident being imported does not have a valid System Tree Items table identifier, the System Tree Item Selection window or the System Tree Item and Configuration Selection window opens. The window includes an option for selecting a configuration only if the Configurations table is turned on in the System file.
Although all of the windows for indicating relationships are similar, the selections you must make are dependent upon the data that is missing. For example, depending on the hierarchical FMEA structure and the data to import, item, mode, cause, and/or effect identifiers might need to be present. If needed data is not present, you are prompted to select a FMEA Table item, which is the FMEA with which to associate the data, and a record in the FMEA Tree Items table, which is the identifier of the FMEA Tree record to which the data corresponds.
All windows for indicating missing identifiers or parent assemblies have two mutually exclusive checkboxes:
Do not ask me this again. Use the current selections as the default. When selected, the Import Wizard uses the selections you make for the fields in this window for all other items with missing identifiers.
Do not ask me this again. Do not import records with missing data. When selected, the Import Wizard does not import records with missing data.
The behavior exhibited depends on the whether one of these checkboxes is selected when you click OK.
If one is selected, when you click OK, the Import Wizard performs the action that you have indicated (either uses the selected item or does not import the record) for all records with missing identifiers.
If neither is selected, when you click OK, the Import Wizard prompts you for selections each time it encounters a record with a missing identifier. The default selections for the fields in the window are always your most recent selections.
To skip the import of a particular record, click Cancel. Otherwise, make the appropriate selections and click OK.
