License reservations apply only to the desktop application.
You should begin by reading Chapter 5, “The Options File,” in the Flexnet Licensing End User Guide in its entirety. This chapter provides comprehensive information about how you restrict the use of a license. Basically, for reserving a license, you use the following ‘type’ arguments:
• USER. Defines a user.
For Windchill Risk and Reliability, you identify an Enterprise Edition user by the Windchill Risk and Reliability user name used for logon, and you identify a Team Edition user by the Windows user name. Because the limit on the Flexnet USER argument is 20 characters, if your Windchill Risk and Reliability user name is longer than 20 characters, use only the first 20 characters for this argument.
• GROUP. Defines a group of users.
Because you can define a list of users in the Flexnet option file, you can reserve licenses for groups of users not only in the Enterprise Edition but also in the Team Edition.
• HOST_GROUP. Defines a group of hosts (machine names).
• GROUPCASEINSENSITIVE. Sets case sensitivity for user and hosts lists specified by GROUP and HOST_GROUP.
• RESERVE. Reserves licenses for a user or group of users/hosts.
Comprehensive information about the syntax you use in the Flexnet option file is described in the Flexnet Licensing End User Guide. The following table lists the Windchill Risk and Reliability license names and the codes that you must supply.
Examples follow of how to reserve Windchill Risk and Reliability licenses.
• To reserve a base Enterprise license for a Windchill Risk and Reliability user whose user name is ReliabilityManager: RESERVE 1 RELEX_ENTERPRISE USER ReliabilityManager
• To reserve a FRACAS module license for anyone on a machine named wrr-server: RESERVE 1 295 HOST wrr-server
• To reserve five FMEA module license for a group named FmeaUsers that you have previously defined in the Flextnet option file: RESERVE 5 309 GROUP FmeaUsers
To do anything in Windchill Risk and Reliability, you must have the base license for your Enterprise Edition: RELEX_ENTERPRISE or RELEX_TEAM. You must also have a module license for each module you need to use. For example, to use the FMEA module in the Enterprise Edition, you must have a RELEX_ ENTERPRISE license and a 309 license for the FMEA module.
If you are unable to acquire an Enterprise base license, you cannot log into a Windchill Risk and Reliability application. If you are unable to acquire a particular module license, you cannot see the panes for that module in the System file. However, Windchill Risk and Reliability will display panes for the modules that it is able to license.
If you unable to acquire a module license because all remaining licenses are reserved, Windchill Risk and Reliability displays an error message with the Flexnet error code.
