FMEA
FMEA 5 edition is created to harmonize practices between the AIAG and VDA. It has a new FMEA MSR (Monitoring System Response), which is targeted for the end users in addition to Process FMEA and Design FMEA. DFMEA, PFMEA, and FMEA MSR have specific attributes and associated lists.
The FMEA process in FMEA 5 edition is 7-step approach:
1. Planning and preparation
2. Structure analysis
3. Functional analysis
4. Failure analysis
5. Risk analysis
6. Optimization - revising S, O, and D
7. Documentation
Action Priority replaces RPN
In FMEA 5 edition Action Priority(AP), is an important element. RPN, which was previously considered base, is now replaced by AP. RPN is calculated when Severity, Occurrence, and Detection are weighed equally.
AP is determined based on the combinations of Severity, Occurrence, and Detection, where, Severity is given the highest weight, and then Occurrence and finally Detection are considered. This approach provides a realistic risk profile of the product/process over the calculated RPN.
The AIAG & VDA FMEA Handbook has all details and the criteria for rating Severity, Occurrence, and Detection, and also for determining AP for DFMEA, PFMEA, and FMEA MSR. You can obtain the The AIAG & VDA FMEA Handbook from this link.
