Finding the Best Fit Distribution
Once you have entered your data, you can determine the failure distribution that best represents your life data. Windchill Weibull and Windchill ALT include a tool for finding the distribution that best fits the data for the selected data set.
1. Select LDA > Find Best Fit Distribution. The Best Fit Distribution window opens and shows all available failure distributions on the Analysis page. You can select which distributions you want to check against the data set. In this case, leave all distributions selected.
2. Click Analyze. A ranking for each distribution appears in the Rank column.
Depending on your data set, the recommended distribution might not be the distribution currently selected for the data set. For example, the current distribution is Weibull (2 Parameters), and the recommended distribution for this randomly generated data set might be Weibull (3 Parameters). If this is the case, the Change button is shown at the bottom of the window, along with a prompt asking whether you want to change the current distribution setting to the recommended distribution.
For this example, if the Change button is shown, ignore it so that the this Weibull (2 Parameters) distribution remains in use.
3. Click Close.
