Made From Set
A made from set is a Windchill object available in the BOM Transformer. It is a holder object. It is used to collect the raw material information.
A made from set object cannot exist as a standalone object as it is not reusable. You must create it in the context of another object.
You can create a new made from set under a part by using the Insert New Made From Set action available in the Editing list of the BOM Transformer toolbar. For more information, see Inserting a New Made From Set.
Concept
In a manufacturing plant, a raw material is the basic part that is used to start the manufacturing process. The raw material passes through multiple processes to manufacture the final part. At the end of each process, a semi-finished part is manufactured which becomes the raw material for the next process and the finished part for the earlier process. A finished part can be designed and manufactured in multiple ways. Also, a finished part can be manufactured in multiple plants by using different raw materials. This is a complex process. The made from set object is introduced to efficiently deal with this complex process. A made from set object is a placeholder object. It is not a physical entity. You can use the made from set object to collect raw material information.
The system allows you to manage multiple made from sets in a single plant. Every made from set can consist of different raw material information. You can use the alternate number to set the priority of made from sets. The higher the alternate number, the higher the priority. Consider the following example: A finished part Engine has two made from sets, M1 and M2, associated with it. Both the made from sets are associated with Plant 1. Using the alternate number, you can set the priority of these made from sets.
You can also define a made from set for a particular plant for the same finished part. Consider the following example: A finished part Engine has three made from sets, M1, M2, and M3 associated with it. You can define the made from sets in such a way that M1 is associated to Plant 1, and M2 and M3 are associated to Plant 2.
*
It is recommended that you use the made from set objects when multiple plants and raw materials are involved.
Additional Information
You can assign only one plant to a made from set object. The view of the plant should be the same as that of the made from set object. For more information, see Assigning a Plant to Made From Set Object.
