Searching Within Actions
Throughout Windchill there are occasions when you must search for an object to complete an action. The search is often restricted to a specific object type. For example, an important step in creating a change request is to select parts designated as effected end items. A special search window titled Find Affected End Items is provided that only searches for parts having the end item attribute set to “yes”. Object specific searches are launched by clicking the find icon or add icon.
Action specific search windows are presented in a consistent manner. The title at the top of the window describes the objects for which the search is being performed such as Find Affected End Items. The top portion of the window, beneath the window title, shows the criteria used to locate a specific object or group of objects. The search criteria vary by object type and the action being performed. Search and Clear buttons are located below the criteria and are used to launch the search operation or clear the criteria to enter new search criteria.
The results of the search are shown in a Search Results table that appears when the search is complete. The number of objects returned by the search is shown above the table. The Search Results table can be customized to show attributes most important to you. For more information on customizing tables, see Using Tables.
To complete the search operation, the user selects one or more objects from the Search Results table and clicks the OK button at the bottom of the page to continue the operation with the selected data.

Some actions allow the selection of only one object. In these situations, the results table displays radio buttons. Other actions allow the selection of one or more objects; the results table for these actions displays check boxes.
